I like most grew up loving sports. It wasn't until I got myself a job and made enough money to get cable where I was able to enjoy this wonderful show known as SportCenter. SportsCenter was like medicine for my sports fanatics soul. I could catch up on all the sports news, Raiders, A's, and Warriors highlights, and hear about the latest trade rumors for my favorite local teams.
Shortly after I got into watching SportsCenter the show, I got to the point where I would watch more for its anchors than its content. I loved watching Rich Eisen, Kenny Mayne, and Keith Olbermann. They were entertaining, interesting, and made watching highlights a pleasure, but my absolute favorite anchor of all times was Stuart Scott!
Stuart Scott was known for catch phrases, flawless presentation, and bringing the urban outlook on sports for the entire world to see. He made SportsCenter more theatre than anything else, and I'd watch 1, 2, 3 shows in a row to laugh and be entertained by his countless list of quotable jargon that still lives in the sports vernacular today.
He died of cancer today and I couldn't help but realize just how much I enjoyed his work. Far too often we don't realize genius when we see it, but it is without any doubt in my mind that Stuart was a genius. I've never met him, but I did grow up with him, and will sincerely miss his presence. A frat brother of mine from Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., and an icon for others around the world, nobody was "as cool as the other side of the pillow," as Stuart Scott! Rest in Peace Brother Scott, your impact was immense and groundbreaking.
